Abstract

This article analyses, initially, what the novelty of totalitarianism meant according to Hannah Arendt. In the analysis of this XX century phenomenon, the philosopher contributes to thinking about contemporary ethical and political problems, since the totalitarian form crystallized some elements that emerged at that time and that are currently intertwined with contemporary capitalism. To deepen the analysis, we will present how truth and lies were articulated in the ideological apparatuses of the totalitarian state, a political event that undermined the capacity to act and the deliberation about public life.
